Harry S. Jooseery
Executive Director, Partners in Population and Development
(PPD)
Harry
Jooseery is since January 2006 the Executive Director
of Partners in Population and Development (PPD) an intergovernmental
organisation which is an observer at the United Nations.
He is a social scientist with a medical background.
He has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Economics
and Political Science, a Masters of Arts degree in Education
and a Masters of Science degree in Reproductive Health
from the University of Edinburgh in UK. He undertook
specialised academic studies in Population and Development
and Executive Development at University of Cambridge,
UK and the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa.
His previous work, affinity and involvement with the
media, takes him back from his social sciences and medical
studies to Mass Communication in which he completes
a Doctorate.
He
started his career as a Journalist in the written press
and subsequently as a Radio and TV newscaster. He has
worked as an Education Officer in Mauritius before joining
the IPPF Member Association in Mauritius as a Programme
Director and later became the Executive Director, and
which he served for 15 years. He followed intensive
courses on Reproductive Health Programme Management,
Reproductive Health IEC Strategy Development and population
and development from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication,
CAFS and other various international institutions. He
has been an ardent advocate for RH and Rights, especially
on issues of Abortion and Women Empowerment, and has
published many related articles. He talks, reads and
writes fluently English and French; understands but
speaks less Hindi and Urdu. He is a good communicator
and possesses a pleasant personality.
Harry
Jooseery has 30 years experience in teaching, training,
consulting and managing Reproductive Health programme
in many countries where he worked for IPPF, UNFPA, UNICEF,
UNDP and others. He has travelled and worked as Consultant
and Trainer on Reproductive Health, Gender and Women
Empowerment, Population and Development in almost all
the continents. As UNFPA Consultant/Advisor he was posted
to the Ministry of Women, Child Development and Family
Affairs of the Government of Mauritius for one year
in 1997 to develop and initiate a Gender Mainstreaming
project for the Government. He has also worked at the
UN mission in Mauritius as the Assistant United Nations
Resident Coordinator. In 2005 he obtained the IPPF Gold
Medal. |
