Mr. Harry S. Jooseery
Executive Director

Harry Jooseery is since January 2006 the Executive Director of Partners in Population and Development (PPD). an observer at the United Nations. He is a social scientist with a medical background. He has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Economics and Political Science, a Masters of Arts degree in Education and a Masters of Science degree in Reproductive Health from the University of Edinburgh in UK. He undertook specialized academic studies in Population and Development and Executive Development at the University of Cambridge, UK and the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. His previous work, affinity and involvement with the media, takes him back from his social sciences and medical studies to Mass Communication in which he completes a Doctorate.

He started his career as a Journalist in the written press and subsequently as a Radio and TV newscaster. He has worked as an Education Officer before joining the IPPF Member Association in Mauritius as a Program Director and became its Executive Director, and which he served for 15 years. He followed intensive courses on Population and Development, Reproductive Health Program Management and Reproductive Health Strategy Development from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, CAFS and other various international institutions. He has been an ardent advocate for RH and Rights, especially on issues of Abortion and Women Empowerment, and made various related publications. He talks, reads and writes fluently English and French; understands and has a working knowledge of Hindi. He is a good communicator and possesses a pleasant personality.

For the past 30 years Harry Jooseery has worked as teacher, trainer, consultant and manager in Social Sciences, Family Planning and Reproductive Health program in many countries where he worked for IPPF, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNDP and others. He has also worked at the UN Mission in Mauritius as the Assistant United Nations Resident Coordinator. He was the recipient of IPPF Gold Medal in 2005 in recognition of his work as advocate for Family Planning and Reproductive Health in Africa. He is married to Usha and has two children: Smita, a Barrister at Law and Kentish a student of Digital Media in London.


Mr. James Biswas
Manager, Administration and Finance

Mr. James joined PPD bringing with him 22 years of experience in International Organizations. He has a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Dhaka University and was trained abroad in project management, disaster management, HIV/AIDS and integrated rural development. He has traveled most of the Asian countries in relation to training and consultancy. His skills are in Business Administration, Project Management, Human Resource Management, Development Training and Event Management. During the last 22 years, he has worked with the World Vision International, a large International Humanitarian Organization working in Bangladesh, DFID Health Projects and The British Council in its Country office in Bangladesh.


Mr. Khandaker Humayun Kabir (Shishir)
IT Officer

Khandaker Humayun Kabir is an IT Specialist with more than eight years of experience in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in many national and international organizations. He has a Masters Degree in Computer Science. Mr. Kabir has a proven success and track record in designing and maintaining Networks (LAN/WAN Solutions), Wireless Networks, configuring and managing Routers, Windows and Linux based servers, developing and managing Dynamic WEB Application. He has a vast professional experience in system analysis and design, conducting assessment, training and leadership capability to manage IT projects.

 


Mr. Hafizur Rahman

Mr. Hafizur Rahman is working with PPD since January 2003 as Finance Officer. He is a Financial Management Specialist. He has vast knowledge and experience on Financial Management, Accounting, Budget & Budgetary Control and Auditing. He has over 13 years of experience in managing Finance and Accounts of different National and International Organizations. He completed Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and Master of Commerce (M. Com) in Management. He is a part qualified of Cost and Management Accountants (CMA) and has Completed Chartered Accountancy Course. He is in a way to complete his Bachelor of Law degree. He has experience at home and abroad to develop and implement Financial Management and Accounting System for different organization as well as for the project.


Dr. Shariful Islam

Dr. S. M. Shariful Islam is a Medical Doctor and Public Health Specialist with more than 6 years of professional experience in various health programme interventions with UN, international and national NGOs, Donors and Government agencies. He has attended several national and international training courses in home and abroad and has received the prestigious Fogarty international scholarship from USA, District merit scholarship and Gold Medal for academic excellence. Prior to joining PPD Dr. Shariful Islam worked as Team Leader UMT and Medical Officer, UNDP Bangladesh in the Chittagong Hill Tracts where he represented UNDP and contributed significantly in developing joint collaboration programs with other UN agencies, government and partner organizations. He worked as a Research Investigator and Project Coordinator in the Reproductive Health Unit of ICDDR, B, Clinical Trial Manager and Physician for Texas Tech University, USA project in Bangladesh, Consultant (Health) in TARA Bangladesh and short term assignment with EngenderHealth. Dr. Shariful Islam has a Diploma in Computer Science and his professional and research interests include maternal and child health, population science including family planning and HIV/AIDS, medical research, epidemiology, primary health care and health program management..


Mr. Amadou M Moreau

Amadou Moreau is currently the International Program Officer for Partners in Population and Development (PPD). He joins PPD in March 2008, after working as Research Associate and Lead for the University of Washington’s (Seattle) Research Program entitled “Contingency and Change in the Practice of Female Genital Cutting: Dynamics and Decision-Making in SENEGAL and the GAMBIA”. Previously, Mr. Moreau was the Senior Program Officer (II) for the Population Council Incorporated, working on two USAID-funded global programs on Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS: FRONTIERS and HORIZONS. He brought to the FRONTIERS and HORIZONS Programs over 9 years of experience in the implementation of research monitoring/evaluation and interventions programs among vulnerable groups in Senegal and other selected countries in sub-Saharan Africa: Mali, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, the Gambia, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, etc.. Supporting his country’s (Senegal) fight against AIDS since 1997, Mr. Moreau provided technical assistance to the Ministry of Health, the National Council against AIDS and local partners in efforts to implement both the Global Fund Initiative and the 2002-2006 national strategic plans against AIDS, and to develop the one for 2007-2011. In addition, he provided technical guidance for program activities on Minorities and vulnerable groups, and on Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and early marriage in Senegal and other selected countries in the sub-Region. Mr. Moreau has served as Program Coordinator of Horizons, Health Specialist Consultant for the World Bank, Research Associate for the multi-centric WSP joined Program for the World Bank and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, World Health Organization in Geneva, International Resource Network (IRN) in New York and Open Society Institute for West Africa (OSIWA), Research Coordinator for Frontiers in Reproductive Health Program, Research Coordinator for Horizons’ Program I/Senegal MSM Project, and Research Assistant for the Antenatal Care Project. Mr. Moreau is bilingual (English/French) and has extensively collaborated and worked with international donor’s agencies including USAID, World Bank, International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), Open Society Institute/Soros and Bristol-Myers Squibb and Gates foundations, WHO, UNFPA, UNICEF and MACRO (DHS), Family Health International, GTZ, African AIDS Research Network; as well as numerous local and international NGOs and USAID funded cooperating agencies (CAs). Mr. Moreau is PhDc in Biocultural Anthropology at University of Washington, and received his post-graduate degree in Sociology at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal. Afterward he earned another post-graduate degree in Demography/Populations and Societies at Catholic University of Leuveun’s Institute of Demography in Belgium. Mr. Moreau’s publications have focused on Minorities and Vulnerable Groups, FGM/C and Youth/Adolescents, STI/HIV/AIDS Prevention and Education, Sexual Health and MSM/LGBTQ, and Stigma and Discrimination around key populations.


Dr. Mohammad Zahirul Islam

Dr. Islam is a public health specialist has more than 8 years of experience. Prior to joining PPD Mr. Islam served at Plan Bangladesh, Dhaka Community Hospital, Bangladesh Safe Community Foundation and World Literature Center (Bishwo Shahitto Kendro).He has also worked as a short term consultant for the Save the Children UK.

Dr. Islam received a bachelor's degree in medical sciences from Sir Salimullah Medical College in 1999. In 2004, he earned a master's degree in Population Sciences from the University of Dhaka. In 2006, Mr. Islam received his second master’s in Public Health from National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM). His areas of expertise includes adolescent reproductive health, population and development; community managed health care and behavior change communication.


Mr. Zayedul Hoque

Mr. Zayeed has under-graduation studies in Commerce, Diploma in Administrative and Personnel Management and Secretarial Sciences, Diploma in Computer Operation and Maintenance, High-level training on website authoring and maintenance in Singapore. Has seventeen years working experience with United Nations, Multinational Companies and Intergovernmental Organizations in management positions, out of which over nine years with Partners in Population and Development itself.


Ms. Shermin Ferdoushy

Ms. Shermin Ferdoushy has a Master degree in Islamic History and Culture. Before joining PPD she worked for Partners in Health and Development (PHD) and Armana Fashions Ltd. She has seven years working experience as Secretary and Assistant Commercial Officer in Import, Export and Banking Department. She has a Diploma degree in Computer from APTECH, Business English Languages Course from British Council and General Computing from YMCA.


Ms. Stina Mureal Gracy Quiah

Ms. Stina has completed Master’s in English Literature and studied Humanities and British Law (Government & Politics) during her Bachelor’s. Before joining PPD she had been working as an event manager at Veritas marketing and Production and as a research assistant under a joint project of British Council and Refugee Migratory Movement Research Unit and as a communication officer (Customer Service) at Grameen Phone Ltd. She has skills in communication, documentation, and event management and communication material promotion.


Ms. Lota Gomes
Office Clerk

Ms. Lata Gomes, born and brought up in a Northern District of Bangladesh. A personal crisis of life brought her to Dhaka and she found PPD as her 1st employer since 1998. She studied up to the Secondary School level. Lata plays a very important role in keeping the office tidy and making herself available to all colleagues for any support service need. She is a self-learner and able to operate most of the office equipments. She is always smiling and never gets exhausted of working.


Mr. Kazi Jalal Uddin
Driver

Kazi Jalal is one of the longest serving staff members in PPD. Before joining PPD in 1997 as Driver for the Executive Director, Jalal served World Bank for 2 years and Parjatan Corporation for 13 years before joining PPD. He possesses a profession driving licence and passed grade VIII from Junior High School. Jalal is a very experienced and safe Driver. He also provides assistance to the staff members in his free time. He is reliable, hardworking and serves organization with absolute dedication. Jalal is married and have two children.


Mr. Wohiduzzaman
Driver

Wohiduzzaman, joined PPD in August 2005 as the Driver cum Attendant. Before joining PPD he worked for Ajex Jute Mills Ltd, A Law Firm, and ICDDR’B, Wohiduzzaman also served under Mr. Jose Paulo de Araujo, Child Protection Officer UNICEF-Bangladesh as his Personal Driver and Grameen Phone. Prior to this he served Bangladesh Army as trainee soldier. He brought in 15 years driving experience in the organization. Wohid passed his Secondary School Certificate education, and completed his Higher Secondary education as well. He possesses a valid professional driving licence. He also serves as Assistant and provides administrative support services as needed. He is married and has a little boy.
