A
member since 1997, Pakistan has made
tremendous progress in the areas of
population and development. PPD member
countries. It has offered to various
member countries its expertise and
experience in curriculum design and
development of training modules for
the full range of RH programmes.
•
Ministry
of Population Welfare, Pakistan in
collaboration with PPD jointly organized
a one day workshop on “South-South
Cooperation and Sustainable Development”
on 5th September 2006 in Hotel Margala,
Islamabad, Pakistan.
•
In
1998, the Ministry of Public Welfare
organised a national seminar on “Islam
and Family Planning” for discussion
and feedback from religious leaders.
•
Two
delegations of 10 religious scholars
visited Bangladesh and Indonesia in
1997 to observe programmes on FP and
Islam.
•
Pakistan
has several national institutes, which
provide training opportunities to
other.
•
Pakistan
introduced the Village-Based Family
Planning Worker (VBFPW) scheme in
1992, first on a pilot basis and later
at the national level. To date 7000
workers are practicing in villages,
with a grassroots approach that provide
better RH information and services
to millions of Pakistani men and women.
Pakistan has benefited from fellowship
awards from Egypt, Bangladesh, Indonesia
and China.
