PPD and Ministry of Health, Morocco jointly organized an International Workshop on "Consulting for Results" for the PPD Consultants from the Francophone countries
Rabat, Morocco — The workshop was attended by sixteen mid to senior level professionals in reproductive health, population and development field from four selected francophone member countries of PPD namely Mali, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia.

The Inaugural Ceremony of the Workshop was chaired by the H.E. Dr. Zhao Baige, Vice-Minister, National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC) of the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

Partners in Population and Development (PPD) and National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC) of China jointly organized a Roundtable on Reproductive Health Commodity Supply among Developing Countries on 7th November 2006 at the Beijing Friendship Hotel in Beijing, China. The roundtable brought together generic reproductive health drug manufacturers from China, India, Indonesia, South-Africa, Thailand in addition to prominent experts in the field to deliberate on the modalities and mechanisms for the provision of generic drugs in ensuring reproductive health commodity security among the developing countries.

Partners in Population and Development (PPD) in collaboration with Ministry of Population Welfare, Pakistan jointly organized a one day workshop on “South-South Cooperation and Sustainable Development” on 5th September 2006 in Hotel Margala, Islamabad, Pakistan. The workshop was graced by Federal Minister for Population Welfare and Honorable Member of PPD Board H.E. Ch. Shahbaz Hussain, Executive Director of PPD Mr. Sangeet Harry Jooseery, Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Doniya Aziz and many high officials from Government and International Organization.

PPD in collaboration with Ministry of Health, Jordan organized an International Workshop on "Consulting for Results" for the PPD Consultants
Amman, Jordan —
Eighteen professionals from eight developing countries such as Bangladesh, China, India, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Nigeria and Jordan came together to attend the International Workshop in Consulting for Results during 22-24 August 2006 in Amman, Jordan. The course was the fifth and last in a series offered by PPD and funded by the Government of the Netherlands.

PPD arranged a Roundtable Discussion on "Public-Private Partnerships for Reproductive Health in Bangladesh: a Positive Innovation" in Dhaka

Partners in Population and Development (PPD), in collaboration with The Weekly Financial Mirror (a weekly newsmagazine) and Beximco Pharmaceuticals (a leading private sector enterprise of Bangladesh), organized a Roundtable Discussion on "Public-Private Partnerships for Reproductive Health in Bangladesh: a Positive Innovation" on 13th July 2006 at CIRDAP Auditorium, Dhaka starting at 10:00 am. The Roundtable brought together an audience of the prominent personalities from the Government, Civil Society, Private Sector and Media.

Bangladeshi wins United Nations Population Award
Dhaka, Bangladesh —
Dr. Halida Hanum Akhter, Director-General, Family Planning Association of Bangladesh, and Haiti's Foundation for Reproductive Health and Family Education (FOSREF) has won the 2006’s United Nations Population Award. Dr. Halida received the award for her outstanding contribution to raising awareness on family planning and population issues.

Severe Health Workers shortage, especially in sub-Saharan Africa
On 25th May 2006 a new WHO-backed global alliance was launched to address the worldwide shortage of nurses, doctors and other health workers. The Alliance will draw together key partners to help countries improve the way plan for, educate and employ health workers.

Visionary Leadership Programme (VLP) Review Meeting in Nigeria

  Visionary Leadership Programme (VLP) review meeting was held in Kano, Nigeria on 18th May 2006. Mr. Harry Jooseery, Executive Director of PPD, Mr. James Biswas, VLP Project Coordinator and Dr. Aloys IIinigumugabo, Deputy Director of CAFS met Hajiya Mairo Bello, the Executive Director of Adolescent Health and Information Projects (AHIP), an anchor Institute of VLP at the AHIP's office in Kano, Nigeria. Ms. Bello has briefed about the programme activities of VLP presently in place and also about the AHIP activities.

Population Time Bomb Threatens Economy of Uganda
Kampala, Uganda —
  UGANDA's current population growth rate is worrying, the Population Secretariat has said. The secretariat has warned that the population explosion rate, which is over 3 percent, is inversely proportional to the rate at which the economy is growing.
