Maternal
and Child Health Care Workshop in
Shanghai
Taicang, China —
China
Training Center of Reproductive Health
and Family Care (CTC) with support
from Government of the People’s
Republic of China and Partners in
Population and Development (PPD) organized
a two weeks long international course
on Maternal and Child Health Care
at Shanghai, China from May 28 to
June 11th 2007. The workshop is the
result of a Memorandum of Understanding
signed between The National Population
and Family Planning Commission of
the People’s Republic of China
and the Partners in Population and
Development concerning the support
to the Institutional Development of
Reproductive Health Services Delivery
Facilities in developing countries.
The
workshop was attended by 40 mid-level
and senior participants from 21 countries
working in the field of Maternal and
Child Health including Sexual and
Reproductive Health. Mr. Hu Hongtao
PCC and Deputy Director-General Department
of International Cooperation, National
Population and Family Planning Commission
(NPFPC) of China inaugurated the opening
session as Chief Guest and Mr. Jianhua
Cai, president CTC was present to
welcome all the participants. Mr.
Hu Hongtao presented on the opening
day “MCH and Millennium Development
Goals- With reference to China’s
experience.”
The
MCH workshop covered:

MCH laws and systems in China
- Prevention
of Maternal-Fetal-Neonatal transmission
of HIV/AIDS
- Management
of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus
- Pre-eclampsia
- Post
partum hemorrhage and obstetric
fistula
- Forceps
and Breach Delivery
- ANC
and prenatal detection of birth
defects and interventions

Organizing MCH programs
- Presentation
of MCH situation in the Participants
Country.

Participants

Dr.
Shariful Islam, Program Officer of
PPD made a presentation on PPD in
the workshop. The lectures were followed
by field visits at different institutes
in Shanghai and Taicang. The entire
team of 40 participants along with
the instructors visited the Shanghai
First Maternity and Infant Hospital,
The CWI International Peace Maternity
and Child Health Hospital, National
Center for Women and Children Health,
China, CDC, China Training Center
for RH Technical Instruction and Training,
and CTC at Taicang incluging a PHC
Center at Taicang.
