Advocacy
and Resource Mobilization Campaign
in Japan during TICAD IV Meeting
Yokohama, Japan —
PPD Executive Director Mr. Harry Jooseery
conducted extensive advocacy campaign
among the heads of states and other
members of the state delegation from
45 African Countries attending the
TICAD IV held in Yokohama, Japan from
28 to 30 May 2008. At the invitation
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
of the Government of Japan, Mr. Jooseery
represented PPD at the this high profile
meeting of the heads of states and
governments. He took the privilege
of meeting with the Presidents of
Mali, Madagascar, Ethiopia and Tanzania
and senior Cabinet Ministers of a
number of countries on the sideline
of the meeting. He discussed with
them the importance and efficacy of
South-South Cooperation in achieving
the sustainable development of African
countries by addressing the integration
of RH and HIV/AIDS, ICPD and MDGs
and promotion of RH Supply and Security
alongside the poverty alleviation
programs.
Following
the TICAD IV Meeting, Mr. Jooseery
met with senior officials at the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the
JICA Headquarters where he discussed
possible avenues for collaboration.
He discussed funding PPD programs
on advocacy and capacity building
in the member states with the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of Japan. During
his meeting with JICA, the officials
expressed JICA’s willingness
to collaborate with PPD on a number
of mutually advantageous programs
the details of which would be elaborated
at a later stage. He took the opportunity
to invite high officials of JICA to
visit PPD Secretariat in Bangladesh.
Further discussion on collaboration
between PPD and JICA would be held
during the visit of the concerned
JICA officials in July 2008.
