Workshop
on “South-South Cooperation
and Sustainable Development”
in Senegal
Dakar, Senegal —
Partners in Population and Development
in collaboration with the Ministry
of the Health of the Government of
Senegal organized a workshop on ‘South-South
Cooperation and Sustainable Development’
on 30 June, 2008 in Dakar, Senegal.
The overarching objective of the workshop
and the subsequent discussions was
to inform the participants of the
scope of strengthening cooperation
between PPD member countries and also
the benefits of South-South collaboration
in general. The Executive Director
of PPD, Mr. Harry Jooseery and International
Program Officer, Mr. Amadou Moreau
attended the workshop and made presentations.

The
Executive Director, Mr. Jooseery,
made a presentation titled ‘Political
and National Commitment for the Promotion
of South-South Cooperation’.
Mr. Moreou’s presentation was
on ‘Programs Interventions of
PPD in the framework of South-South
Cooperation’.
Besides
this workshop, Mr. Jooseery also met
with H.E. Madame Safietou Thiam PPD
Board Member, and Honorable Minister
Ministry of Health and Medical Prevention
Republic of Senegal. During this meeting,
the Executive Director of PPD briefed
Madame Thiam on PPD’ Strategic
Business Plan and its salient programmatic
areas. They also discussed Senegal’s
involvement and contribution to South-South
Cooperation. Mr. Jooseery invited
the Honorable Board Member to the
next PPD Board Meeting to be held
in Kampala, Uganda. The meeting ended
with an expression of thanks to Senegal
for their role in and contribution
to PPD.

Mr.
Jooseery and Mr. Moreau also held
a working session with PPD Partner
Institute (PI) in Senegal: Centre
de Formation et de Recherche en Santé
de la Reproduction (CEFOREP). During
this session possibilities of strengthening
collaboration between PPD and its
PI were discussed in detail.
Mr.
Jooseery with Mr. Amadou Hassane Sylla,
Coordinator CEFOREP
and Prof. Jean Charles Moreau, Chairman,
CEFOREP Board.
During
their Senegal visit, the PPD delegation
also met with representatives from
Senegalese Association for Family
Welfare (ASBEF), Tostan, a Senegalese
NGO, African AIDS Research Network
(AARN) and Population Council to discuss
issues of common interest and scopes
for partnerships.
