Pakistan
on the boulevard to the constitution
of the National Task Force on South-South
Cooperation
Islamabad, Pakistan —
PPD
in collaboration with the Ministry
of Population Welfare organized a
Workshops on National Support Structure
on South-South Cooperation (NSSSSC)
in Islamabad, Pakistan towards constituting
a National Task Force for institutionalization
of South-South Cooperation and coordinating
the implementation of the South-South
Programs in Pakistan. The workshop
was attended by 150 participants from
different government ministries and
departments, United Nations agencies
such as UNFPA, UNDP, World Bank, UNICEF.
H.E Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Minister
for Population Welfare of Pakistan
presided over and addressed the opening
session while the Secretary of the
Ministry of Population Welfare, Mr.
Nayyar Agha chaired the working session.
The Executive Director, Mr. Harry
Jooseery addressed the participants
at the Opening Session and elucidated
the concept, constitution and function
of the National Support Structure
to the audience in a separate presentation.

Following
the workshop the Executive Director
met with the Board Member and Minister
of Population Welfare at her office
in the Population Secretariat, Islamabad.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Population
Welfare and PCC Mr. Hammad Shamimi
were also present in the meeting.
The Executive Director discussed about
the constitution of the proposed support
structure, RH Commodity Security,
assistance to Pakistan in developing
a RH Centre of Excellence. The Executive
Director also requested the Minister
to let PPD know about the specific
requirement of the Government of Pakistan
to improve the

Mr.
Jooseery met with the Board Member
and Minister of Population Welfare
at her office in the Population Secretariat,
Islamabad. PCC of Pakistan Mr. Hammad
Shamimi were also present in the meeting
reproductive
health status of Pakistan and particularly
in addressing high population growth
rate in Pakistan. The Minister committed
to do everything necessary to address
the problem and extended her all out
assistance to PPD and particularly
to the Executive Director. She thanked
the Executive Director for organizing
the workshop in Pakistan and sought
his help in addressing the population
problem of Pakistan. In addition to
this, the Executive Director met with
Pakistan UNFPA Representative Mr.
Daniel B. Baker and discussed collaboration
with PPD and support to the Ministry
of Population Welfare particularly
in their participation in the PPD
Governance events, which he assured
on behalf of the UNFPA.
