Reproductive Health Supply Coalition’s first Annual meeting held in Kampala

Kampala, Uganda — The Ministry of Health of Uganda and Partners in Population and Development, Africa Regional Office hosted the 11th Annual Membership Meeting of the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel from May 27th to 28th. This meeting marks the first time the Coalition has held its annual membership meeting outside of Europe or North America. Uganda is the first African government to join the Coalition.

“The meeting will underscore the mission of the Coalition, which is to assist those working in reproductive health at the global, national, and local levels to improve and strengthen reproductive health supply and commodity chains,” said Coalition Director John P Skibiak.

As the Coalition’s first annual meeting was held outside Europe or North America, the Kampala event was showcase successes and lessons from across the developing world. Minister of Health Dr. Stephen Mallinga had a keynote address to officially launch Uganda’s Five-year Reproductive Health Commodity Security Strategy. In 2009, Uganda became the first African government to join the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition, taking its place alongside the governments of the United States, seven European nations, the European Union, and subsequently the government of Ghana

The membership meeting was structured around four broad themes: Caucus on New and Underused RH Technologies; Access Reproductive Health and Reproductive Health Interchange; Systems Strengthening and Market Development Approaches; Resource Mobilization and Awareness .Given the size of the gathering, the meeting introduced a host of new presentational formats including simultaneous break-out sessions; moderated panel discussions; and parallel presentations by Working Group leaders.

Mr. Harry S. Jooseery Executive Director of PPD was present in this occasion and attended in the RHSC Executive Committee meeting. Since its establishment in 2004, the RHSC has held regular meetings of its general membership. These events have enabled Coalition members and guests from around the world to renew ties, share ideas, and learn of new developments in the field of reproductive health commodity security. It is to be noted that PPD is an Executive Member of the RHSC since 2008.
