calls for Increased Donor Funding
to Family Planning (FP) and
Reposition of FP in National
Development Agenda
The
PPD Executive Director Mr. Harry
S. Jooseery appealed to the
international community to increase
funding to Family Planning sector
and to the developing country
governments to Reposition Family
Planning in the national agenda.
Mr. Jooseery made this statement
while he was speaking at the
2nd International Conference
on Reproductive Health Management:
Emphasis on Family Planning
organized by Government of Indonesia
and UNFPA in Kuta, Bali, Indonesia
from 6 – 8 May 2008.
Mr.
Jooseery argued that the international
development assistance framework
and the national policy formulation
mechanism need to adapt with
constantly evolving challenges
posed by “emergence of
a transnational public and private
sector integration and partnership”
and “growing influence
of the private sector, civil
society and NGOs”. He
emphasized that PPD is uniquely
positioned to help all concerned
to face these challenges due
to its unique characteristics
of South-South Cooperation.
He
deplored the prevalent perception
that “South-South Cooperation
is an affair of developing countries
only” and stated that
“the North is funding
the South-South Cooperation
not by compassion but by recognizing
the overall gain it brings to
all on planet earth”
PPD
will complement Activities
of the Key Players in RHCS
and bridge Knowledge Gaps
PPD,
as one of its strategic focuses
in the coming years, is committed

commodity supply and security
in the developing countries,

Mr. Harry Jooseery. Mr. Jooseery
made the remark during his
intervention at the “Ninth
Membership Meeting of the
Reproductive Health Supplies
Coalition (RHSC)” held
in Brussels, Belgium on 22-23
May 2008. In his presentation,
Mr. Jooseery said that PPD
will support the activities
of the key players in RHCS
and will also fill in gaps
in knowledge in its member
states and other developing
countries. He said that PPD
will continue to use its existing
platform to discuss and advocate
for RH Commodity Security
and play a vital role in promoting
the availability of affordable
RH medicines and commodities
that meet internationally
accepted standards of quality
which have been adequately
tested for safety and efficacy
in its member states. He maintained
that PPD will ensure that
manufacturer’s adhere
to WHO prequalification standards,
as stated by the Rabat Declaration
adopted by PPD Board during
