Permanent Observer Delegation of Partners in Population and Development to the United Nations Office in Geneva


Geneva, Switzerland — We are pleased to announce that the United Nations Secretary General granted PPD the gracious permission to establish a Permanent Observer Delegation to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland.

Partners in Population and Development has appointed Dr. Denis Broun as its Ambassador, Permanent Observer to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva.

 

Dr. Denis Broun reporting to UN as PPD Ambassador

Government of Switzerland accorded PPD Permanent Delegation in Geneva the recognition and status of a full-fledged diplomatic mission with all relevant diplomatic privileges and immunities according to the Vienna Convention dated 18th April 1961.

Dr. Denis Broun presented his nominations on 18 March 2014 as PPD Ambassador, Permanent Observer to the Director-General of the United Nations Offices at Geneva. The Director-General of the UN Offices received the nomination on behalf of the Secretary-General of the United Nations at a formal presentation ceremony at his office in Geneva. PPD Permanent Delegation in Geneva will operate in full-swing from 18 March 2014 onwards.

Following the official accreditation as PPD Ambassador, Permanent Observer, Dr. Denis Broun will call on the heads of the different United Nations Agencies in Geneva and brief them about PPD’s mission, mandate and activities.

Partners in Population and Development (PPD) is an intergovernmental alliance comprising of 26 developing countries. This alliance provides the mechanism to promote partnership and cooperation between the member countries, towards achieving the goals of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), Programme of Action (PoA) and also the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). It holds a status of Permanent Observer status at the United Nations General Assembly.

The PPD member countries cover more than 57% of the global population.
