PPD Celebrated the World Population Day 2013


The theme of the World Population Day (July 11) this year was ‘Adolescent pregnancy’. Partners in Population and Development (PPD) observed the day by developing and sharing a PPD Policy Brief on Adolescent Pregnancy highlighting the status of adolescent pregnancy in its 25 member countries and discussing relevant policy and program options. PPD has shared the policy brief with its Member Countries, Partner Institutions, and other networks and stakeholders. Click here to see the Policy Brief.

PPD also participated in observing the World Population Day 2013 in its host country, Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, Director General of Family Planning and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in association with relevant sectoral ministries, UNFPA, PPD, INGOs/NGOs, Civil Society organizations etc. organized elaborate programs to observe the day. The program also included a colorful rally and a national inaugural ceremony at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka. Prof. (Dr.) AFM Ruhal Haque, Hon. Minister, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and PPD host country Board Member was the chief guest at the ceremony. PPD also participated in the rally.

PPD also contributed an analytical article on ‘Population Challenges and Opportunities of Bangladesh in the Coming Decades’ in the souvenir published in commemorating the day in Bangladesh. The souvenir was distributed widely to different sectoral ministries, directorates, UN and other international agencies, development partners, Health and Family Planning facilities at national and districts level.
