China joined PPD in 1997.

  • Government of the Peoples Republic of China and PPD organized an International Workshop for Senior Officials on Population and Climate Change in Taicang China from 21-27 April 2010.
  • Since joining PPD, China has shared experiences and provided technical assistance to PPD member countries in order to strengthen their capacity in the field of reproductive health and family planning and to foster South-South collaboration in the following areas:
  • An International Workshop on Infrastructure Design and Equipment for Reproductive Health Service Station was organized by China Training Centre (CTC) of Reproductive Health and Family Care sponsored jointly by the Ministry of Commerce, People’s Republic of China and National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC) of China from 10-23 September 2007 in Taicang and Jiangsu province
  • CTC with support from Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and with assistance from PPD organized an International Workshop on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights in Beijing and Yunnan, China from 08 to 21 July 2007.
  • CTC with support from Government of the People’s Republic of China and Partners in Population and Development (PPD) organized a two weeks long international course on Maternal and Child Health Care at Shanghai, China from May 28 to June 11th 2007.
  • National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC) of China and PPD jointly organized an “International Workshop for Senior Officials on Capacity Building in Program Management on Population and Development” at the Beijing Friendship Hotel in Beijing, China from 08 to 10 November 2006.
  • On 8th November 2006, 3 MOUs was signed between PPD and the Government of the People’s Republic of China to provide the following assistance to the PPD Member States from 2006 to 2010.
    (i) Capacity Building
    (ii) Contraceptive Supply and Security
    (iii) Institutional Development for Reproductive Health Service Delivery
  • National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC) of China and PPD jointly organized a Roundtable on Reproductive Health Commodity Supply among Developing Countries on 7th November 2006 at the Beijing Friendship Hotel in Beijing. The roundtable brought together generic reproductive health drug manufacturers from China, India, Indonesia, South-Africa, Thailand in addition to prominent experts in the field to deliberate on the modalities and mechanisms for the provision of generic drugs in ensuring reproductive health commodity security among the developing countries. The Roundtable was sponsored by PPD, NPFPC and Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, and UNFPA.
  • China Training Center (CTC) organized an International Workshop for the Senior Officials on South-South Co-Operation in Population and Development from 23-27th April 2006 in Taicang Century Hotel, Taicang City, China. The workshop was jointly sponsored by Ministry of Commerce and National Population and Family Planning Commission of the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
  • In 2001, the Minister of the State Family Planning and Population Commission led an 8-member Chinese delegation to Egypt and Kenya and donated reproductive health equipment and commodities for use in disadvantaged populations like urban slums.
  • China benefited from fellowships in demography from Egypt and from Bangladesh’s initiative on religious leaders and reproductive health.
  • The Shanghai Institute of Planned Parenthood Research and the Nanjing Population Programme Training Centre International have conducted numerous regional training courses in the areas of project management, information technology, global leadership and no-scalpel vasectomy.
  • As a follow up of the Kochi Declaration, a policy statement on commodity security, China invited many developing countries and financed 8 countries to attend the International Exposition on Commodity Security hosted in Dalian city. One notable result of this initiative was the IUD memory trial of 200 women using the Chinese contraceptive in Bangladesh.
  • Transfer of technology and knowledge on no-scalpel vasectomy and on the treatment of infertility to Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand, Egypt and Indonesia.
