PPD Executive Director Delivers Key Interventions at the 4th China–Africa Conference on Population and Development in Kenya – 20 Nov 2025

Partners in Population and Development (PPD) is pleased to announce the successful participation of Professor Joseph Akinkugbe Adelegan, Executive Director of PPD, at the 4th China–Africa Conference on Population and Development, held in Nairobi, Kenya. The conference took place under the theme:
Harnessing Population Dynamics for Health and Sustainable Development: Strengthening China–Africa Cooperation.

He emphasized the transformative demographic shifts shaping Africa and Asia, the importance of rights-based sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and the need for investment in universal health coverage and youth empowerment.

Professor Adelegan underscored PPD’s role as the only intergovernmental alliance dedicated to promoting South–South cooperation in population and development, while highlighting the centrality of PPD Dhaka as the global coordination hub.

He presented strategies for unlocking demographic dividends in PPD Member Countries through innovative financing, catalytic investment, integrated SRH, capacity strengthening, and demographic intelligence systems.

Strengthening Africa–China Cooperation

The event brought together ministers, senior government officials, researchers, development organizations and multilaterals to discuss shared frameworks for:

  • Harnessing demographic transitions for development
  • Strengthening health systems and Universal Health Coverage
  • Linking labour market transitions to the demographic dividend
  • Expanding evidence-based policy and data-driven programming
  • Advancing South–South and Triangular Cooperation

PPD congratulates all partners for a successful convening and reaffirms its commitment to working with China, Kenya, and other Member States to deepen collaboration, accelerate policy reforms, and drive measurable impact for population and health outcomes globally.
