Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – January 27, 2026 – Partners in Population and Development (PPD) is poised for a significant new collaboration following a high-level meeting between its Executive Director, Prof. Joseph Akinkugbe Adelegan, and the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), H.E. Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the third edition of the Global Labor Market Conference (GLMC) held in Riyadh.

The encounter provided a valuable opportunity for Prof. Adelegan to introduce the comprehensive scope of PPD’s work, particularly its mandate in fostering South-South cooperation across population, reproductive health, and development. The discussion focused on the critical intersection between PPD’s strategic pillars and the global agenda for decent work and social justice championed by the ILO.

H.E. Mr. Houngbo expressed an interest in partnership between the two organizations, focusing on one or two of PPD’s core strategic pillars. Prof. Adelegan welcomed the prospect of this strategic alliance, noting that a partnership with the ILO would significantly amplify PPD’s impact in areas where population dynamics and labor market issues intersect.

This potential collaboration marks a major step forward in PPD’s efforts to forge high-impact partnerships with key global institutions, leveraging shared expertise to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Global South.
