The Honorable Chair of PPD Board and Minister of Social Development, Ms. Lindiwe Zulu, commemorated World Population Day 2021 under the theme: “Rights and Choices, Youth Demographic Dividend” on Tuesday, 12 October,

The commemoration of World Population Day was a partnership between the Department of Social Development and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and seeks to raise awareness on the importance of population and development related issues.

It also serves as a call for countries to be more responsive on fertility and demographic shifts by prioritising the sexual and reproductive health and rights of all people. The priority is emphasised on young people, through access to sexual and reproductive health information services and contributing to their human development.

This year, panelists comprising of experts, specialists and academics in the space of population will for a period two days explore different topics ranging from Gender Equity, Equality, and Empowerment of Girls and Young Women, Social Development as a Catalyst of Social Integration,  employment strategies for young people. This day is commemorated during October which is Social Development month under the theme: “Delivering DSD services during COVID 19 in the year of Charlotte Maxeke!”
