Workshop in Victoria Falls Enhances Strategies for South-South and Triangular Cooperation in Population and Development

A one-day intensive workshop held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, on 11th October 2023, brought together Partner-Country Coordinators (PCCs) from the PPD Member Countries, representatives from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and senior officers. This collaborative initiative aimed to bolster strategies for South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) in Population and Development.

The workshop employed a blended learning approach, comprising multiple elements to maximize engagement and efficacy. The event served as a culmination following active listening sessions during the International Inter-Ministerial Conference on South-South and Triangular Cooperation in Population and Development held on October 9-10, 2023, at the same venue. Additionally, participants completed a pre-requisite online course focused on SSTC in Programming.

Among the anticipated outcomes of this comprehensive engagement were:

1. Strengthened Network of Countries Advocating SSTC: The workshop fostered a strengthened network among participating countries, fostering an environment conducive to robust collaboration and information exchange.

2. Drafting of Country-Specific SSTC Plans: Attendees worked on crafting country-specific plans to effectively implement SSTC strategies, focusing on programming and monitoring within their respective regions.

3. Enhanced Capacity in Knowledge Management and Resource Mobilization: Participants gained advanced skills in utilizing knowledge management tools, alongside developing capacities and mobilizing resources dedicated to SSTC initiatives.

The event concluded on an optimistic note, with participants expressing enthusiasm for the actionable plans devised during the workshop. The commitment to fostering cooperation among nations to address population and development challenges stood as a testament to the shared dedication toward achieving sustainable progress.

The workshop’s outcomes are expected to significantly contribute to advancing collaborative efforts in population and development, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation among nations in addressing global challenges.
